5 Signs Your Older Lexington Home Needs a Repipe
Homes built before 1985 in Chevy Chase, Ashland Park, and downtown Lexington often still have galvanized steel — and it’s at the end of its life.
1. Brown or rusty water
Galvanized steel rusts from the inside out. If you turn on a long-unused faucet and it runs brown for a few seconds, your pipes are corroding.
2. Pinhole leaks repeating
One pinhole in copper is bad luck. Three in two years is a pattern. Time for PEX or new copper.
3. Pressure drops when two fixtures run
Mineral buildup narrows old pipes. The fix is replacement, not flushing.
4. Visible green or white crust on pipe joints
Active corrosion at the joints. Will leak, just a question of when.
5. The home is over 50 and never been repiped
If the receipts aren’t in the basement, assume it hasn’t been done.
